8th April 2026Celebrating James Brown Becoming a Chartered Arboriculturist

James Brown Chartered Arboriculturist

At AWA Tree Consultants, we are proud to celebrate a significant professional milestone for our colleague James Brown, who has achieved Chartered Arboriculturist status with the Institute of Chartered Foresters.
Chartered Arboriculturist status represents the highest level of professional recognition within arboriculture and reflects a commitment to professional standards, ethics, and continual development. Achieving chartered status requires significant experience, technical knowledge, and the ability to demonstrate sound professional judgement.
A decade at AWA
James joined AWA ten years ago and quickly established himself as a capable and highly respected arboricultural consultant. As one of the founding members of the team, he has played an important role in the growth and development of the business.
Over the past decade, James has contributed to a wide range of projects across the UK, from development planning and infrastructure schemes to tree risk management and expert advice in the built environment. Alongside his technical expertise, he has also helped shape the culture of the company and support the development of colleagues.
Strengthening professional standards
James’ achievement is particularly meaningful for AWA because it means the company now has two Chartered Arboriculturists within the team. For a specialist tree consultancy, this represents a significant mark of professional credibility.
As the largest independent tree consultancies in the region focused solely on arboricultural advice, maintaining high professional standards is central to how we operate. Chartered status demonstrates to our clients that our advice is grounded in recognised professional competence, ethical practice, and a commitment to ongoing learning.
Many of our clients – including architects, landscape architects, planners and engineers – operate within chartered professions themselves. Having chartered professionals within our team helps ensure that arboricultural advice is delivered to the same professional standards expected across the wider built environment sector.

What Chartered Arboriculturist status means for our clients
For clients commissioning arboricultural advice, professional credibility matters. Development projects, infrastructure schemes and land management decisions often rely on accurate tree survey data and sound professional judgement. Getting this wrong can lead to delays, redesign costs or unnecessary conflict within the planning process.
Chartered Arboriculturist status, awarded by the Institute of Chartered Foresters, provides reassurance that arboricultural advice is being delivered by a professional who has demonstrated the required experience, competence and ethical standards expected within the profession.
For our clients this means:
Professional assurance – Advice is provided by consultants who have been independently assessed against recognised professional standards.
Technical competence – Chartered Arboriculturists demonstrate a high level of knowledge and experience across arboriculture and the management of trees within the built environment.
Professional accountability – Chartered professionals are bound by a code of professional conduct and a commitment to continuing professional development.
Confidence in decision-making – Whether advising on development proposals, infrastructure projects or tree risk management, clients can be confident that recommendations are based on sound professional judgement.
Supporting the next generation of arboricultural professionals
Professional development has always been an important part of the culture at AWA. The arboricultural profession continues to evolve, with increasing recognition of the value that skilled tree consultants bring to the planning system, development projects and the management of trees in the built environment.
Supporting colleagues as they develop their careers and progress towards professional recognition is something we are proud to encourage within the company. Achievements such as James’ Chartered status demonstrate what can be accomplished through dedication to professional standards and continual learning.
As AWA continues to grow, we remain committed to maintaining high professional standards and supporting the development of arboricultural professionals within the industry.
James’ achievement is a proud moment for everyone at AWA and reflects both his personal dedication and the professional values that underpin our work.
Congratulations, James!
