2nd March 2026Tree Consultants Volunteering with Kids Plant Trees in Parsons Cross Sheffield

At AWA Tree Consultants, our day-to-day work as tree consultants in Sheffield often involves advising on trees in relation to development, planning applications, and tree risk management. However, last week some of our team stepped away from their usual work as arboricultural consultants to get hands-on with planting trees in the community.
We spent the day volunteering with the fantastic Kids Plant Trees, helping to plant and mulch young trees in Parsons Cross, Sheffield. The project was supported by Sheffield City Council’s Community Forestry Team, who are working with local groups to plant around 1,800 new trees across Parsons Cross and Longley Parks.
Tree Planting in Parsons Cross
Parsons Cross, a large residential area in north Sheffield, is consistently ranked among the most deprived areas in the UK, falling within the top 10% nationally for deprivation. Like many former industrial communities, it has faced significant economic and social challenges over recent decades.
However, it is also an area with a strong sense of community and ongoing efforts to improve local environments and public spaces.
Tree planting initiatives such as this can make a real difference. Trees help improve air quality, biodiversity, urban cooling, and the overall character of neighbourhoods. Over time, the trees planted during this project will help create greener, healthier public spaces for residents to enjoy.
From Tree Surveys to Tree Planting
Much of our professional work at AWA Tree Consultants focuses on providing arboricultural advice for planning and development. While this technical consultancy work is essential to protecting trees during development, it was refreshing to spend the day doing something a little more practical. Helping to plant the next generation of trees is a great reminder of why many of us entered the arboricultural profession in the first place.

Volunteering with Kids Plant Trees
The day involved planting young whips and spreading mulch around newly planted trees to help them establish. It was physical work, but extremely rewarding.
The Kids Plant Trees team organised the event brilliantly, making it easy for volunteers to get involved while learning more about the importance of tree planting in urban areas.
It was also a great opportunity for the AWA team to spend time outdoors together and contribute something positive to the local community.
Corporate Volunteering and Tree Planting
For businesses looking for meaningful corporate volunteering opportunities in Sheffield, a day with Kids Plant Trees is something we would highly recommend.
Not only does it support an important environmental cause, it is also a fantastic team-building experience. Spending time outdoors, working together, and seeing the immediate impact of your efforts makes for a genuinely rewarding day.
Supporting Sheffield’s Urban Forest
As arboricultural consultants based in Sheffield, we care about the future of the city’s trees. Whether we are carrying out tree surveys for planning, advising on tree risk management, or supporting tree planting initiatives, our goal is always the same — helping both people and trees flourish.
A big thank you to Kids Plant Trees and Sheffield City Council for organising such a fantastic event. We look forward to supporting similar projects in the future.
